Accounting Manager - Construction

The focus of Hodge Western Corp over the last 20 years started in heavy civil and evolved into technology-driven, specialty underground utility construction.  We operate in three divisions: Renewable Energy, Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD), and Rock Trenching.  Our company works on projects throughout the western, southern, and midwestern United States. JOB SUMMARY:

The Accounting Manager will oversee all aspects of general accounting, including the maintenance of accounting systems, adherence to accounting standards, and preparation of financial reports. This role ensures the accuracy and integrity of financial data while providing strategic recommendations for financial planning and management. This position offers a great opportunity for a skilled accounting professional to lead a growing team and contribute to the financial health and success of the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and enforce internal controls, policies, and procedures for accounting transactions and budget management.
  • Direct the preparation of required financial business activity reports, financial forecasts, and annual budgets.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial reports in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Assist with tax planning and ensure compliance with state sales tax requirements.
  • Conduct audits to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations related to accounting and tax.
  • Responsible for annual review process and coordination with external auditors.
  • Advise senior management on financial objectives, strategies, and policy recommendations.
  • Provide financial analysis for capital investments, pricing strategies, and contract negotiations. This position has not previously been involved with pricing and contract negotiations.
  • Ensure adherence to local, state, and federal financial reporting and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee and improve financial controls, ensuring accurate tracking of assets, accounts, and other key financial data.
  • Lead and mentor the general accounting team, ensuring efficiency, accuracy, and compliance with policies.
  • Stay current on accounting trends, industry best practices, and regulatory changes, applying this knowledge to improve processes and policies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a managerial role.
  • Experience in the construction industry is a plus; CPA designation preferred.
  • Strong leadership and supervisory skills with a proven ability to manage teams effectively.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Enterprise accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and multitasking abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of cost accounting principles and financial regulations.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • Annual Salary: $110-150k based on experience
